Webcomic - Preview Panel 3 – Difficult

In late 2013 or even early 2014 I plan to put out my webcomic. This is still untitled but I have completed 35 pages so far.
The comic is a series of poems told in the form of a comic. Making use of images and words to create poetry that focuses on visuals as opposed to just telling a story.

This is the Third Preview Panel from the series - a poem/comic called Difficult. Here the panels almost remain static and the emphasis is on the words and the change of perspective of the character.

Webcomic - Preview Panel 2 – Problems

In late 2013 or even early 2014 I plan to put out my webcomic. This is still untitled but I have completed 35 pages so far.
The comic is a series of poems told in the form of a comic. Making use of images and words to create poetry that focuses on visuals as opposed to just telling a story.

This is the second Preview Panel from the series - a poem/comic called Problems. Here the imagery is more abstract and doesn’t focus so much on character, but on the change of imagery between panels.

Webcomic - Preview Panel 1 – Mother Silk

In late 2013 or even early 2014 I plan to put out my webcomic. This is still untitled but I have completed 35 pages so far.
The webcomic is a series of poems told in the form of a comic book - making use of images and words to create poetry that focuses on visuals as opposed to just telling a story.

In the run up to the release I plan on posting up preview panels of the different stories/poems.
This is the first Preview Panel post. The debut is form a webcomic poem called Mother Silk.

Regime – A Short Film Poem about the Protest Movement in Canada.

Recently I completed a short course at the Edinburgh College of Art called – Video For Artists. I completed a short 3-minute film of video a shot during my time in Canada. The film will be uploaded to my Vimeo and Youtube profiles soon, but below is the DVD case I created and some information on ‘Regime’ the film I made.

PREMISE: A Short Film Poem about the Protest Movement in Canada.

SYNOPSIS: In the Spring of 2012 I backpacked around Canada. I took many photographs and shot some video footage on a digital SLR camera, a compact camera and my mobile phone.
During this time I visited many cities and observed how the local population undertook protests and activism towards local issues. These issues included students protesting against tuition fees in Montreal and Quebec City, Quebecian separatists in French Canada, Pro-life and Pro-choice protesters in Ottawa and anti-capitalists in Toronto.
With REGIME I present a short documentary based on the poetry film movement. Other than focussing on a narrative I present a film that looks at imagery and non-sequitor video to present the protests I witnessed. Focussing on banners and text, along with still images, REGIME tackles the theme of power, activism and collective passion as the people of Canada stand up for the issues that they believe in.

Image for Theatre Company

Recently I completed some character design for a theatre company in Manchester called Digging Deep theatre.
The images I created can be seen below.
Having done theatre reviews during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival I was looking forward to working for a theatre company and hopefully more work will come in this area of the arts soon.
The image itself is to be used on a t-shirt and marketing material. The character is called Sky and the brief was to make her look tied and exhausted, as if she has just got up in the morning.

Papergirl San Francisco

I have some artwork at the Papergirl San Francisco exhibition. The artwork is being handed out by cyclists in San Francisco on 11th November 2012.
The Exhibition itself was on 3rd November at the Incline Gallery at 766 Valencia Street.
I exhibited some of my postcards.
Information on the event can be found here, as well as info on myself and the other artists.

Animation on Bad Robot Poetry

Bad Robot Poetry is an excellent blog on Internet and New Poetry. It is run by Catherine Woodward and I have an animation the incorporates poetry on the website.

This is what Catherine says about Bad Robot Poetry:
Bad Robot is a UK based blogzine which publishes Internet Poetry, short essays and features. Given that the internet has done for literature what the camera did for art, Bad Robot would like to encourage as many people as possible to create and engage with an avant garde art that incorporates the dominant media of the 21st Century. Comprised of, about and/or using the conventions of the internet, Internet Poetry is a relevant mode of poesis which truly engages with life in the contemporary ‘Western’ world.

My animation was created in Flash and the text is short and succinct. It is the first in a series of new media poetry experiments which follows on from my other Poetry work. This will incorporate a web comic which I am currently developing. More on this soon.

Please view the video over at Bad Robot Poetry.

Blogging for The Flaneur

I have been doing a seperate blog over at The Flaneur. Here I have reviewed spoken word shows during the Edinburgh Fringe. I also plan on writing some other articles. The Flaneur is an arts and culture blog. I have been asked to review art in Edinburgh as well as SpokenWord and Literature.
My articles can be read here

Postcards3

Some new postcards. These may be part of a bigger project which I might develop if I have time.
Write a poem on several postcards. Have the poem with a structure that is not linear. Give the postcards out to different Papergirl events. Have the recipients post the poem postcards back. The order in which the postcards arrive dictate the structure of the poem. Then exhibit the postcards in a gallery. A new mail art project? Maybe if I get the time, but something for the future.

Postcards2

Here are some new examples of the postcards I have created. These examples show illustration but also text. The text is from a short story. I don't plan to publish the story so I thought I'd add it to this art project and maybe give ti away to a Papergirl event in the future. A couple of the earlier images made their way to Papergirl Calgary.

Postcards1

For some new work and a break from computer illustrations, I have decided to do some drawing on some old photographs. The illustrations are very basic but showcase a new style I am going for. The Photographs are old Lomography photos that I printed off.
Some of these postcards incorporate short stories, flash fiction and poetry. I will post some examples of these illustrated postcards soon.
